In 1990, George Drakoulias @drakpack discovered Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers were recording ‘Into The Great Wide Open’ in an adjacent studio at Rumbo Recorders:
“First, we left admiring fan letters. No response. Then we staked out the parking lot and hallways, but Tom had a private entrance. We sent fruit baskets, cookies, manly challenges (see letter on slide 4) and finally, apologies for being rude. Still dead silence.”
Despite the fact that Tom never responded, he kept this letter from George, which was recently uncovered in the Petty Archives.
