We had a fabulous night at Drag On Show: Drag Life Drawing this week at 21Soho in their sumptuous Green Room inspired by William Morris. For this salon Le Fil curated an evening of fashion, classical music and drag transformation, featuring a fabulous look called ‘Lady Ruffles’ that celebrates the female body and womanhood - serving iconic drag. It was a fantastic night full of creativity and socialising amongst an artistic community. Guests were supplied with artistic materials to create their drawings and artwork, while Le Fil created several stages of transformation for inspiration. We cannot wait till the next one. Drag On Show debuted in the heart of Soho London this week with my Lady Ruffles look celebrating women and the female body. For this first @draglifedrawing event at @21soho.sq I hosted a chic evening of art, classical music and drag in the sumptuous Green Room. In the decadent yet intimate lounge inspired by William Morris, guests witnessed a transformation of my body through different looks. It was lovely to present the body as a sculpture and muse, and to see how everyone interpreted in their own artistic style. I loved seeing everyone’s art! I was too big for the Drag Race UK runway! I would have wiped out all the pretty lightbulbs had I worn my tent dress the way I intended to 🤪 On the day of the Pink runway, I set up the tent in the Werkroom so producers could see how it could work, but there was no way of even leaving the werkroom, or go down through the corridors of Pinewood, or even backstage of the MainStage 😅 so we removed the main poles and made my bottom a lot smaller. In fact, I’ve never been able to perform or wear this dress at most venues, as most wings side of stage at venues are so narrow. So the art gallery is the most fitting home for this wonderful piece of sculptural fashion. When I launched Drag On Show @draglifedrawing it was the obvious iconic pink look to wear, complementing the digital trees with the campsite concept and being a bold design to kick off these series of Drag Life Drawings. What is Drag Life Drawing? I hosted my first ever Drag On Show, a life drawing experience that feature drag transformations as the muse and model for @draglifedrawing Inside the gallery of @artotellondonhoxton I exhibited my iconic pink tent dress, camping amongst the live digital trees in a work by @danhprt We brought the dressing ritual into the gallery as performance art, ready for artists to capture through their drawings. SKIN IS IN - in the name of ART 🤪✨ Placing Drag into a gallery setting and hosting Drag On Show was very liberating and insightful. In today’s culture, drag holds a certain perception that is mainly contextualised through TV competitions or the pub setting. When placing it into the gallery, every element is scrutinised. I was also excited to bring back my tent dress that I wore on @dragraceukbbc Even while filming that look on the runway, I couldn’t even install it to its full size or potential because it was wider than the entrance to the runway 😂 However for the gallery of @artotellondonhoxton we could set it up fully, but also take viewers on the transformative journey. We focused the guests attention onto every aspect - the transformations, the dressing ritual and the gendered body are all placed into the spotlight as equally valid components of drag. Was great to see what the artists all then chose to depict in their drawings. This has definitely stirred my imagination more as to what is possible within ‘drag’. Can’t wait to curate more. A wonderful evening’s entertainment and interaction at the @artotellondonhoxton drawing @iamlefil in their gallery space, combining the beautiful immersive forest bathing experience of @danhprt ‘s A Conversation Between Trees with a journey of shedding and reassembling identity through high drag and fashion culminating in a look inspired by Dan’s work that combines the Victorian bustle, the glammest glamping and a pink so hot Barbie could never. Stunning work all round. . This piece, titled A Transformation Between Trees, combines all of my sketches of the evening with a landscape inspired by Dan’s video with a digital flowering network leading us from iteration to iteration across the forest floor, up trees, limbs, hair and arcing through the air culminating in the full look. In this instance, the information being carried by the network that Dan’s piece illuminates is that of identity and expression as it recedes and flows and the forest itself has begun to mirror back the blaze of colour #art #artist #drag

DRAG MEETS ART ✨ Last night we launched Drag On Show: Drag Life Drawing at The Gallery of @artotellondonhoxton and it was so much fun! Inspired by the gallery’s current exhibition ‘A Conversation Between Trees’ by @danhprt I curated a life drawing session that featured my iconic pink tent dress, so we could all camp amongst the digital trees. Guests were invited to draw the different stages of my drag transformation - from the dressing ritual into the final look, accompanied by a bespoke soundscape. Everyone made some fantastic drawings to take home. It was lovely to experience such a fabulous night of creativity and energy, I can’t wait for the next one!
