”Niklas Hallman may have set out to bring about this exhibition in the form of a book, yet what we are faced with today, quite literally, is the absence of the book. In its absence we instead encounter these paintings, presented together under the title of Snake in the Boot. Viktor Skhlovsky has famously noted that central to the way art operates is a technique of defamiliarization (ostranenie) which, instead of the automatized recognition of everyday life, favors a longer form of perception.1 As the gaze meets painting, a space opens in which the quotidian surroundings seem estranged. In this space one might find, little by little although right away, in the dim light of the bookbinder’s cave, a boot filled with a snake.”

Eeva Juuti, a Helsinki-based artist whose work spans sculpture, collage, painting, and installation, will celebrate the opening of her debut solo exhibition 299 792 458 m/s at Galleriaia, Helsinki, on October 2nd.
Juuti’s practice explores the intersection of materiality, light, time, and impermanence — using everything from paper and photography to ready-mades and found objects. Her work imagines everyday materials as carriers of memory, energy, and light, shaped by both natural forces and human attention.
The Exhibition is curated by Niklas Hallman.
