'Forgiveness is truly a gift I give to myself.’ - Dr. Edith Eger On this Holocaust Remembrance Day, we reflect on the resilience of survivors like @dr.editheger . Her journey teaches us that forgiveness is not about condoning the past but freeing ourselves from its hold. It’s about reclaiming our innocence, assigning shame where it belongs, and finding the courage to live fully in the present. May her wisdom inspire us to choose compassion, understanding, and hope, even in the face of history’s darkest moments. #HolocaustRemembranceDay #NeverForget #EdithEger #Forgiveness

Remembering that amazing moment that dearest Oprah read my book and it changed my whole life. It was my greatest dream to have her read my book… and eventually that dream came true. I hope to have you join me as we dive into my first book and discover the power of choice for your life. Together we will discover how you can make your most personal dreams come true. To join me for this four week workshop simply wrote “Bookclub” into the message and my team will send you a link. All my love! Edie 🎵 we are in our early bird pricing so now is a great time to join us!

Our dearest Edie was a star and left us so much of her soul. Without trying to she kept us engaged and inspired - and we all leaned in to learn more … feel more … and listen to our inner voice for guidance. Edie wasn’t one to tell us how to be. She was one to SHOW us how to be. We hope to take this wisdom with us - and be the change we want to see in the world, rather than telling others to be. We miss you Edie, you shining star! And yet we feel you every day in our hearts and actions. Let us know in the comments.. how did she inspire you? With love, Edith Eger Foundation

Our dear Edie loved being a mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Talk about grandmother energy! Many people would tell us that she signed their books, “Grandma Edie.” She understood that not all women are mothers, but all of them had one at some point. And she was always willing to be the mother or grandmother you needed. We miss our dearest Edie on this first Mother’s Day without her. And we feel her spirit rising in each of us. All of us at the Edith Eger Foundation wish you a very happy Mother’s Day. And we celebrate all of you who share your light with the world around you. (Photos show Edie and Magda with their daughters as well as Klara’s daughter. And then Edie and Bela with her first daughter, Marianne, just after the war in 1946, and then Edie with her grandchildren)

How quickly a life changes - from who we were to who we become. So many transitions happen on that journey, and each is a chance to revisit who you are now, and who you want to be in the future. Edie was always changing her life, from Hungary to Baltimore, to El Paso…. To La Jolla (where the second photo is from) - and each time she was working to become her true self, her full self. May we see her, learn from her, and become our greatest expression of self. With love and Shabbat Shalom, Team Edie

My heart is heavy sharing the news of the passing of Dr. Edith Eva Eger. Edith sat with me and shared what it means to survive the unsurvivable. Not just to survive it but to always know you have the power to choose. You can choose hope, choose freedom, choose to let our suffering mean something. She leaves behind a legacy that reminds us all of the extraordinary resilience of the human spirit. She survived hell and spent the rest of her full, beautiful life turning that pain into a gift for others. That is a life fully lived. 🕊️

Sad to hear of the passing of a legend @dr.editheger , a Holocaust survivor, psychologist, author and speaker. She was by far my favorite interview. It’s biased, but she’s the oldest person I interviewed and the wisest. And she’s the first person I heard speak in 8th grade who really made a mark on me. She taught me three major things: 1. We have a choice. Most of us have a prison in our own minds. The key is in our pocket. 2. The choice to forgive is also powerful, not for the other person, you forgive to set yourself free. 3. Self-love and self-care are not selfish. They’re necessary for a happy life. Keep high kicking. Edith was speaking in public until her last days. I first heard her speak in 1992 and was lucky to interview her for my podcast and live at a small event in Encinitas. She’s an incredible woman whose life touched many. Grateful to know her. She was almost 99. Love to her family. There’s an old interview with Edie and I you can search on REI’ s Wild ideas worth living or on my YouTube channel. Shelbystangerproductions.

RIP Dr. Edith Eger What a light in this world you have been. A beautiful night @warwicksbooks in La Jolla, April 2025 When it was time for questions, she waved us up to her and took our hand as she answered our questions. Such a graceful soul. She was an inspiring matriarch, pictured with her grandson. @dr.editheger

This week, Dr. Edith Eger passed away at the age of 98. We were lucky enough to have featured @dr.editheger ’s work, her beautiful book “The Gift: 12 Lessons to Save Your Life”. In the book, Dr. Eger wrote, “To choose hope is to choose life.” As a Holocaust survivor, Dr. Eger learned firsthand how important hope can be in living a full life. This beautiful excerpt from Dr. Eger’s lays out how hope and idealism are two very different things. Head up to our link in bio to revisit now, and may Dr. Eger’s memory be a blessing.
