On International Women’s Day March 8, Chúng Ta Cùng Nhau recognizes the suffering, strength, sacrifice that our mothers, grandmothers, aunts, friends and family endured 50 years ago during the Fall of Saigon, and of course, long before that. The impossible choices Vietnamese women were forced to make for the good of their families. Balancing cultural and generational demands and expectations while trying to shape and assert their own identities. What it meant to start over here in Canada, the many challenges, hardships, they faced so that the next generation of women could live a better, freer, life. We think about the resilience of the Vietnamese-Edmonton community and the work the second generation carries in order to care gently and respectfully, for our elders and our youth. We think about bridging the gap, mending the trauma, and forging our own paths. All the while doing it with kindness, love, joy, conviction (and a bit of spice 😉). We are blazing a trail that our ancestors could never have imagined.
We acknowledge and thank the many women who have shown up for the Vietnamese-Edmonton community since our arrival in the city, and particularly the women who have shown up to Chúng Ta Cùng Nhau spaces since we began our efforts to bring the community together last fall.
Happy International Women’s Day from the Chúng Ta Cùng Nhau family. May you celebrate and uplift the women in your lives today and every day.

A moment for our speakers at Chúng Ta Cùng Nhau‘s Where We Came From (and where we go from here) art, food and reflection event. 🙏🏻
We are so grateful to our speakers for sharing their stories, their Vietnamese-Edmonton experiences, and their family history and lessons.
We are so grateful to community members who listened and were deeply moved by what they heard.
We are so grateful to the current @cityofedmonton council and mayor for attending and being part of the launch of our new non-profit, recognizing our efforts to preserve Vietnamese-Edmonton heritage and culture, increase Vietnamese representation and help shape the future of Vietnamese-Canadian identity.
We are thrilled to have looked back on Where We Came From (and continue to), as well as look ahead to where we go from here. 🧡
Thank you.

Better late than never! We've been meaning to share this wonderful moment that our family created together.
It’s been a slow & tough start to the year as we’ve been breathing with the passing of one friend and the mysterious disappearance of another friend - both so so dear and beloved.
I've been reflecting on what a beautiful thing it is, how we all touch one another and how these threads that connect us can become part of the fabric of who we are - through the seeds that we water in ourselves and in one another.
I am continually grateful for the particular sweet kindness, compassion, playfulness and generosity that these friends express and inspire in me.
I've been finding myself more awake with insomnia at night and more awake from autopilot in the day, and I'm reminded that all is precious.
We hope you stop and enjoy this moment with us...
May we begin anew this new year, awake to the ordinary magic that surrounds us. It’s all so precious and you’re all so precious too! ❤️

These 3 recently moved back from Vancouver to be closer to family. We’re all very pleased by this. I may have dragged out this shoot a little selfishly to hear Sean and their little guy play the piano a little longer. Even through a window we need to take the magic where we can find it.
Happy COVID Christmas YEG!
