Queensland Fruit Fly has been detected in South Perth and Como.
Qfly is a serious pest which attacks more than 300 species of fruits and vegetables. It could seriously impact WA’s horticulture industries and your ability to grow and enjoy fruits and vegetables at home.

You catch more flies with honey. And you catch more honey bees with… balloons?
This is a surveillance technique called aerial pheromone ballooning. Our Biosecurity Officers spray a lure with a queen bee pheromone, which can attract male bees (drones) up to 800m away! 🐝
The bees stick to the string, giving us a sample of honey bees in the area – potentially including any exotic bees that shouldn’t be there like the Asian, Giant and Red dwarf honey bee.
