Detroit, MI — The Voyeur Bordello is proud to present Alight in the Dark, a powerful new duo exhibition featuring the work of photographer Rico Anthony Phillips and painter William Clayton Ainsworth. Opening Friday, June 13th from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM, this exhibition draws inspiration from classical aesthetics and the evocative drama of Chiaroscuro — the interplay of light and shadow that defined the Renaissance and Baroque masters.
Rico Anthony Phillips, known for his haunting yet intimate portraiture, captures fleeting human vulnerability under the weight of darkness pierced by controlled, luminous frames. His chiaroscuro inspired photography creates emotional gravity through stark contrast and deep, cinematic tones.
Painter William Clayton Ainsworth, by contrast, channels the classical legacy through oil on canvas — summoning echoes of Caravaggio and Rembrandt in his richly textured studies of solitude, resilience, and sacred mystery. His figures emerge from shadow like ancient whispers made visible.
Together, Phillips and Ainsworth create a dialogue that transcends medium. Alight in the Dark is not merely an homage to the past — it is a contemporary invocation of shadow and spirit, pain and revelation, rendered in two deeply human vocabularies.
The Voyeur Bordello, Detroit’s art gallery, offers a uniquely intimate and immersive space for this exhibition, inviting guests to step into a world where beauty burns quietly through the veil of darkness.
Admission is free. Light refreshments and drinks will be served. Select works will be available for purchase.
