Finding my way through this picture I normally swift past painting hands, when I do I can’t help but notice a squirm.
I’ll find a way around it -avoid any compositions with prevalent hands, or even embellishing to the point they’re not noticeable (to me)- maybe it says a lot about me, or maybe I just need to stop internalizing the smallest things. Who knows?
Technically I’m not the best, but I’ve got quite a feel of the medium, so I answered each stroke with another, layering colour, scraping back, letting marks argue and settle. There are parts that feel unfinished but then again if everything were to be spelled out (figuratively or psychologically) it wouldn’t make it any different from an illustration.
I really fuqs with the table, it started flat and boring, then loosened into motion. Thinking of Matisse, I pushed horizontal broken marks until the surface held depth and a kind of fracture.
Interesting finds I’ll try to explore on some new studies.
A little studio visit with @dousmind - have seen Denzel’s work a few times at shows and the last time I visited the same studio to take some photos of Joel.
Was great to be invited to take some photos.
