I'm Douglas Bicker, and I'm an on-location sound recordist, boom operator, sound designer, dialogue clean-up/mixer, audio-book mixer and voice over artist.
I'm based in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia and have been extremely lucky to work with some of the best and brightest talent in the country. Here is a snippet of some of the work I've done over the past year.
This absolute fever dream of a short still haunts me to this day. I can never escape. I can never escape. I can never escape I can never
Excited to announce Blue Rooster, a film I sound designed, is showing at the St Kilda Film Festival on the 12th of June @ 8:30pm during the Comedy After Dark program! If you're there, please go give this absolute cluster f#@k of a film a good watch.
It's very blue. 🚻
WE ARE A FINALIST!!
'Version 1.0' for the Very Short Film Festival - COMING SOON!
As a filmmaker, I am particularly interested in telling stories of worldly events merged with the human condition. After finding myself becoming rather reliant on ChatGPT, I thought it would make for an interesting story to imagine a world where humans replace AI.
The theme for this year's VSFF was 'thread'. We explored this theme metaphorically, showing how the human connection thread may become severed through AI and how human connection is still so important to survive.
Can't wait to share it with you!

Sunday the 21st of December marks the night the final episode of "Who's Speaking Please" airs on Channel 31 in Melbourne, and hoo boy what a show this was to work on as Head of Sound!🔥
There were a lot of challenging moments throughout this season. I had to quickly learn that over-engineering with a format as crazy and unpredictable as imrpov can really cause extra strain on what is essentially a very simple set-up! Pulling back from placement mics, boom operation, over-the-head mic setups, etc, and focusing solely on making LAV mics and stereo shotty mic setups sound incredibe in a TV studio for audiences at home. It was an incredible learning experience. Once those workflows were solidified, I'd never felt more excited to start every week.
Big shout outs to my sound team, Cole Millot and Jasmine Griffiths, for being incredibly helpful on the sound mixing board, mic set ups and testing and overall being my emotional support when things inevitably went awry (can't have a strong set without a few challenges). Hire them! They're incredible sound mixers, designers and on-location recordists too!
An equally massive shout out to the entire crew for "Who's Speaking Please". The show had always had big goals in mind, and not only did we smash them, but we managed to make something all of us and the RMITV team can be incredibly proud to have our names attached to. Let's hope we can work together again for a Season 2?
As well, I wouldn't be typing all of this if it wasn't for the support from the amazing Guy Cunningham. He's known me since I was just an amateur voice actor hiding under a bed mattress fort with my lil AT2020 Steinberg setup on my laptop, dragging me on stage for PAX Australia to start the first instances of the show and having me on board with all of my prior sound, video and live editing knowledge to lead a team of amazing people for PAX this year. Couldn't have done all of this without your support, mate.
Merry Christmas, everybody! It's been an amazing year, and hopefully I'll be posting more BTS photos soon! (I'm absolutely horrid at keeping up with social media and also I look so weird when I'm focused in like every single photo I've seen.) 🎉
Another year, another PAX Australia panel!
This past month or so, I’ve been working on a Channel 31/CH31+ TV Show called “Who’s Speaking Please?” as the head of sound, something that’s been an amazing blessing with an amazing sound team with bright careers in front of them.
Again this year, we’ll be performing our improv game show LIVE at PAX in the Generosity Theatre Friday @ 8:15pm. Lots of fun games, surprises and good times will be had!
Huge thanks to @drguysy for inviting me to the show back in 2022 as his tech guy, and allowing me to showcase my skills as they’ve evolved over time. I’m looking forward to what we show on Friday and what the audience can see for future episodes!

🎧 New Audiobook Alert! 🎧
She's just a baby! At 676 words, The Puppy Plane and The Tortoise Train has been the shortest kids audiobook I've narrated to date, but she packs a punch with lots of different character voices and sound effects during that time!
Thank you to @douglasbicker for taking on the editing to ACX standards and choosing all the fun sfx!
Graduated looking like the Fat Controller from Thomas.
Thank you all for being part of this journey. Excited to bring about more projects and climb this ladder with you all. ❤️
Despite a ten-hour gruelling trip from CBD Melbourne to Broken Hill and losing my mind with @aoife_maura , @tegamblero & @nick_buket_phd , we got here and got to watch a new audience react to The Petrification of Dee Wallace at @perfectlightfilmfestival .
We won 2nd Place! Honestly an incredible trip and I loved meeting so many filmmakers from around the country. This is what I do this for: to collaborate and share in the passion and love for filmmaking.
More to come soon.
