When winter starts to mean taking ages putting on boots, scarves, thermals, jumpers, gilets, coats, gloves, hats...and you remember 3 months ago when all it took was a little bright red piece of lycra. @speedouk #cosy (Shout out to the tan lines revealing this is not a common look.) #tbt #actuallytbf #greece #happysailing #unbound7 π @leoalsved πΈ @challengesophie π§ Last Night On Earth - Dada Life

18 months later and I've worked with @sweatisdata to deliver their first @crowdcube campaign, and have just started another venture with @themickeyfitz . We finish delivering to our first client today.

That face smiling outside the Whistler Medical Centre last February was defiant but without any idea what was coming for him. 12 months later, and with another 6-12 months of rehab to go, I've had a lot more time to contemplate the consequences of 'phoning it in' at the end of a long day on the mountain. In summary: 1-star review. βοΈ
Last January I moved to western Canada π¨π¦ for a few months exploring whether North America might be where I would relocate for the next chapter of my life. Less than 6 weeks later fate (/British Airways) flew me home with a conclusive answer. A torn ACL, MCL, meniscus and fractured tibial plateau saw to it that this new chapter would be taking a very different shape to the one I had in mind.
This is NOT a post to dwell on what happened. I love skiing, I was having one of the best days on one of the best mountains in the world, surrounded by great people. It's taken a while but one-by-one cycling, running and skiing will all happen again. Patience was never my strong card, maybe I needed some practice. π€·πΌββοΈ
This IS a post to show some gratitude to all the people who have patiently helped me put myself back together again. The friends in Whistler and Vancouver who kept me moving in those early days, my medical support across both countries, my orthopaedic surgeon and physio for their amazing focus and expertise over months and month...and most of all @lucyapril1 and my family for having to endure far more of me in 2022 than any of them had any right to put up with. π
Life may not have taken the path I expected, but having thrown it to the universe it's certainly given me an adventure all the same. After 12 months doing the work, I'm very much back on my feet, and to those I've not seen in a hot minute, let's get it going again. π₯

240 days post-injury, 119 days post-surgery and I was able to stand atop a mountain summit once again.
Throughout the 7 weeks in June and July that I was unable to walk - or even weight bear - on my left leg, I genuinely didn't believe I'd be climbing anything until summer 2023.
Still another 245 days of rehab to go until I'm officially out of the woods...I'll consider this a half-way celebration. π
The enormity of my gratitude to my surgeon, physio and everyone else who has been so patient in helping me get here cannot be stated enough, and now is another perfect time to say THANK YOU ππΌ
π¬ And that's a wrap on the 2022 Christmas Card photoshoot. ππΌββοΈ
After 4 months of intensive 'prehab' physio, procedures and milestones, today marks the beginning of the long road to *actual* recovery! Hugely grateful to all of you who have supported me (both in Canada and London) through the journey so far.
Time for a couple months back on the crutches and taking things SUPER carefully, before life can gradually start getting more adventurous once again! π₯
