Proximity with the spirit of Te Wai Pounamu. What a surreal experience… Conditions were horrid. 70kn winds, heavy rain and low vis grounded all NZMF air users for the remainder of the day. It was looking far from promising as we made our way offshore and into the fiord. But at just the right times when we needed it most, Tāwhirimātea showed us mercy.
