Just finished filming a portion of the documentary I am working on as a part of my thesis work. I spent my valentines doing what I love most - falling deeply in love with a community and finding stories they want to tell. Narikoso is a remote village on Ono Island in the Kandavu province. I went there to document stories about climate induced relocation but what I found shining through were stories about climate resilience. This is a video my teammate took of us leaving the village while a bunch of the villagers came to say goodbye. Outside of extremely challenging and physically demanding reporting process, I’ve also grown a lot emotionally as an individual because of the things I witnessed and experienced and I’ll forever be grateful. People from the Global South have so much to share and teach the rest of the world. There is so much work to be done in terms of diversifying our understanding of climate issues by involving other languages and cultures to be part of the global discourse.

☀️Event Description Join journalist and filmmaker Shreya Jaikumar Menon for a conversation on the frontlines of climate change coverage. In her upcoming short documentary, Na Vosota – Standing Before the Tide, Shreya captures the lives of families in Narikoso, a remote Fijian village, as they struggle to survive against the backdrop of rising seas and intensifying cyclones that are reshaping their land, homes, and futures. Through months of reporting, living alongside the community, and documenting their everyday struggles, Shreya weaves together stories of resilience and loss among families who rebuild after devastating storms, of children whose education is disrupted by dangerous tides, and of communities forced to adapt when international aid and funding dry up. At this New York Climate Week event, Shreya will share insights into her reporting journey, preview scenes from the documentary, and speak about the critical intersection of climate change, displacement, and education in the Pacific Islands. Following the talk, guests are invited to join a reception to support the film’s post-production. Contributions will help complete the documentary, covering translation, animation, and editing, ensuring that the voices of Narikoso can be heard on the global stage. 🌊 #climateweeknyc #climateweeknyc2025 #climatechangeawareness

No major accomplishments to celebrate just yet Learning to deal with failure better. Giving myself grace, bracing myself for more potential hardship and continuing to try a lil harder each time I fall. Success is inevitable, but until then I refuse to continue punishing myself for things that are not in my control Grateful for the person I am and the person I’m becoming 🤞🏾
