Once again I gotta thank my friend Tom from @dotdashnyc for putting me onto something I’d been completely missing — and now that I’ve heard it, I’m like: how the hell have I lived this long without knowing this existed? This time it’s New York four-piece Imaginary Icons — a band Tom himself was involved in — who, 15 years after calling it quits and with their reunion show on May 16 alongside Tyvek and Added Dimensions, are re-pressing on the Brooklyn label and @fuzzywarblescassettes , this 7" originally self-released back in 2011… and I had zero clue it even existed. Thanks, Tom! This thing is unreal. Two absolute killer tracks, each one more mind-blowing than the last — a blown-out mix of first-wave DIY punk and krauty skronky synth-drenched No Wave that hits from the first chord, raises goosebumps, and leaves you totally locked in… no way you’re not looping this nonstop for the next 24 hours. Seriously—what a beast. Been a while since I heard two tracks this insane, and this perfectly paired.
