On Thursday night, our four Mayor of Dorchester candidates attended the Ashmont/Adams Civic Association. Each candidate introduced themselves, shared why they are passionate about our community and answered thoughtful questions from attendees. We are so grateful for the energy, dedication and support each candidate has shown while raising funds for the Dorchester Day Parade. ❤️ The excitement continues as we get closer to determining this year’s Mayor of Dorchester! Stay tuned…May 12th is the big day! #DotDay #MayorOfDorchester #DorchesterDayParade #thankyou

✨Meet Dottie✨ For the past 4 years, I’ve proudly marched alongside BGCD in the Dorchester Day Parade. As many of you know, for nearly a decade now, I’ve had the honor of serving as the Director of Fine Arts & Media programming, I also happen to coach the baton twirling program.. so when a colleague sent me the logo contest, I immediately started dreaming up a design that would pay homage to the original bandman, but also put a modern spin on the classic logo. It was in that moment, that Dottie was born. I knew right away that I wanted to use majorette symbolism, since baton twirling is so deeply rooted in Parade history. It is also particularly personal for me after growing up twirling in parades. Getting to pass that tradition on to our Dorchester youth feels incredibly full circle. I knew I needed to reference imagery that felt unmistakably Dorchester, so the Gas Tank was of course a no brainer. From initial first drafts, messy brain dumps, sketches, color studies and then the final painting that was transformed into a digital rendering in procreate - this behind the scenes look captures Dottie the Drum Majorette coming to life. So much love, intention and community pride went into Dottie, and I’m beyond grateful for all the support she’s received already! I can’t wait to see her out in the world this parade season 💙
