first outdoor event of the year and the start of another summer in Calgary.
we're doing this one with the support, partnership and guidance from @eau.claire.yyc , @cold_garden , @alcoveartscentre , and @calgaryfoodbank . it takes a village to put one of these together and we could not ask for better partners.
also, shoutout to everyone who volunteers, advises, shows up early, stays late, and helps us build something the whole city can come to. we don't do this alone and we don't pretend to.
a few things if you're new here:
• RSVP at the link in bio. it's free, but we need a count so we can plan properly.
• bring a non-perishable item for the @calgaryfoodbank if you can. we collect during the event and deliver after.
• respect the park.
• respect each other.
• take your trash with you. it's a public space and we want to keep being welcome here.
share this with the people you'd want next to you on a saturday afternoon. that's how this thing keeps growing.

something new for vol. 8: the event will have a fenced perimeter (4 ft tall) with two entrances.
here's why. to bring you the Cold Garden beer garden, the city requires the space to be fenced. that's the rule for any licensed event in a public park. we don't love fences either, but this is what makes the beer garden possible.
two entrances this year, please use them. we'll share a map closer to the date.
inside the perimeter you can do everything you've always done. blankets, picnics, non-alcoholic drinks, all welcome. you can come and go as you please, no re-entry policy.
if you want a drink, Cold Garden is right there. that's why we partnered with them, so you can grab a beer without worrying about the city, the rules, or any of it. they've got you covered.
the only rule: no outside alcohol in, no alcohol out. if the city catches anyone with open alcohol outside the beer garden, they fine the person and they fine us. and if that happens, these events don't stay free.
we're a community. we make this work together.

some partners are new. some have been for a while. today we want to talk about the Eau Claire Community Association.
In May 2025, the city told us we couldn't keep doing this at Rotary Park. we'd outgrown it. we didn't know what was next.
then someone from ECCA reached out. they opened up their neighbourhood and their parks. we planned one event with them. then another. they kept saying yes, and they kept making room for us.
they're the reason we were able to keep these events alive. for the trust, for the support, for treating us like friends and neighbours instead of outsiders, thank you.
we wouldn't be doing vol. 8 without them. that's just the truth.
