✨ A new review of "Voices of Human Consciousness" in the Japanese 🇯🇵 magazine @jazz_tokyo Many thanks to Rieko Hirata! Thanks to technology, I was able to translate a selected excerpt for you: "The musicians of Sound Circle are artists with strong, well-established individual voices. Particularly noteworthy is their ability to build musical communication instantly, as well as their intense and focused interaction. The very fact that Sound Circle is an international ensemble already draws attention. However, the key question is how music emerging from such diverse traditions is captured, developed, and framed within the context of contemporary jazz. Despite the juxtaposition of different cultures, the overall result sounds remarkably natural and cohesive. While international lineups are not uncommon today, Sound Circle stands out for the scale and depth of its sound. For example, in the piece ‘Lothlorien,’ the voice of Cuban percussionist Bárbaro Crespo appears alongside the Nordic horn of Hildegunn Øiseth, creating an almost mystical, spacious atmosphere. The piece ‘Saba H2O,’ composed by Lebanese pianist Tarek Yamani, blends Arabic scales and rhythms with a jazz pulse. In ‘Sparks,’ clear references to the history of American jazz can be heard. Although the album has a strong concept and structure, its greatest strength lies in the spontaneity and the vivid, improvised communication between the musicians.
