A fire in the bathroom.
A bit unnecessary.
Exactly right.
The bath fills, the flames mind their business, and the night carries on outside.
Winter at Dorp — you don’t need to be anywhere else.
We had to start our Cape Town hotel series at @dorphotel .
An intoxicating blend of bouj, quirkiness and personality… and that’s just the GM, @xanderlab .
This gem of a property is everything we look for in a boutique hotel.
If you’ve already stayed, lucky you. If not, put it on your list.
Perfect for honeymooners, anniversaries or just a naughty weekend away.
The bar has officially been set.

The door closes and the rain becomes something else entirely — something to listen to, something calm, when you’re warm enough not to mind it.
Out there, it carries on. Nothing to worry about. The kettle hums, the light dips low, and the evening opens up slowly in front of you.

Heat. Silence.
And the slow, deliberate joy of thawing out — properly.
The cold slips off, quietly, without much fuss.
Winter, done as it should be — warm, unhurried,
and slightly impossible to leave.
A warm, comforting cup of tea.
Rain, doing its thing somewhere outside.
A winter afternoon at Dorp — slow, warm, and not asking anything of you at all.
I always think the Rose Room is at its best in winter. A bath that takes its time. A fire that doesn’t rush you.
The mountain goes quiet outside, and somehow, so do you.
The fire that was stoked before you thought to ask. The note that was there when you came back to the room. The way the coffee arrives exactly when you need it.
None of it is accidental. There are people here who pay attention, quietly, without needing you to notice.
But it’s worth saying: we notice them.
The Bo-Kaap changes this time of year.
The colours stay — they always stay — but the light that falls on them shifts. Softer now, less insistent. The shadows arrive earlier and stretch longer across the cobblestones.
The neighbourhood has a different pace in autumn. The afternoons cool quickly.
People linger less on stoeps and more around tables.
We think that’s a fair trade.
