It has been a month since my mother Susan passed away, early in the morning of the 1st of April. My sister and I were both there with her when she died, a haunting experience, but words really cannot convey how thankful I am that we could be present, tell her how grateful we were, hold her hands and provide what comfort we could. These last five years have been defined by caring for her, as dementia inexorably took away her independence, her home and beloved garden, her language, all of her comforts and pastimes that she had spent so long cultivating. It was devastating to witness, though once again I am grateful to have been there for her, that I could get to know her better, even as her former life and self slipped away, to be replaced by something which seemed simpler but constantly hinted at the complexities that remained beneath. We’ll be forever thankful to the PSWs and nurses who did the real hard work of caring for her, who (hopefully) enjoyed her sense of humour, which remained until the end. Love you, Ma.

Dorian FitzGerald's first show in Mexico opens May 9th. Dorian Fitzgerald nació en Toronto en 1975, donde vive y trabaja. Es licenciado en Arte e Historia del Arte por la Universidad de Toronto y el Sheridan College. Sus pinturas, a menudo de gran formato, representan las locuras y los excesos de los ricos mediante una técnica peculiar que lleva perfeccionando desde hace varios años. Su obra ha sido expuesta en la Art Gallery of Hamilton, la Blackwood Gallery, la Universidad de Toronto en Mississauga; el Museo de Bellas Artes de Montreal; la Galerie de L’Université du Québec à Montréal y el Museo de Arte Contemporáneo Canadiense (ahora MoCA), en Toronto, entre otros. It’s the last two weekends for 𝘌𝘱𝘰𝘤𝘩, closing December 6th @clintroenisch - thank you to everyone who has come out to see it! I will be at the gallery tomorrow, the 29th, for a conversation with the lovely @stephenandrewsartist , at 2pm - with refreshments to follow.
