Today I’m sharing a bit of my process with this mural for @sonderstays via @paradigmgs 🙏🏽. Once we agreed on a color palette I did a bunch of different mockups in my iPad. Then used my projector to see them on the actual space. As soon as I saw this design on the space I had no doubt it belonged there. However I was pretty nervous about the pop of blue. I had the wonderful @nico__vos helping me one day and she could tell you how worried I was about the blue going on the wall. But once it did 😍😍😍. Now I can’t seem to stop incorporating pops of blue, it’s such a beautiful companion to earthy tones. The “continuous line” is always a challenge but a meditative one that I really enjoy. I LOVE painting big walls!! • • • • #sonderstays #theheid #indoormural #murals #blue #ladieswhopaint #ticaquepinta #wallart #bohemianart #behrmarquee #behrpaint #continuousline #decor #walldecor #colorpalette #painting #womenwhopaint #muralist #phillymurals #creativemama #grateful #costaricanart #latinaartist #artistalatina #artetico #phillyart #springcolors

On days when grief creeps in and attempts to take me on rough seas and I’m just not up for the ride I look for flowers. 💐 Today’s flower therapy courtesy of @longviewflowers stand 🙏🏽 💐 which I discovered thanks to @memory_palace 💖 #dondelasflores #flowertherapy #bloomsoftheday

There is a slowing down that happens when you extract color from nature. You become an alchemist, playing with fire and water, but you are only so much in control. The process forces you to become observant and to remain flexible. To be an artist is to be an active participant of an aesthetic ecosystem. One where we recognize that the everyday, the things we notice, the curiosity we allow in, the colors and words we choose to surround ourselves with are all part of what feeds this ecosystem into not just an existence, but a creative existence. ART. WITNESS.

💖 ——————————— There is a beauty in impermanence… a few little strawberry pieces my little ones left on the table could easily be waste, but even though there is so much to do… there is ALWAYS so much to do, I can’t resist the urge to turn them into color and paint. It’s a pink that always makes me smile. At first it’s almost transparent on the paper, then it becomes intense and bright, and if we mix it with time and sunlight it slowly begins to fade like life itself. But I think that’s the beauty of natural colors, just because something doesn’t last forever doesn’t mean it isn’t worth it. I enjoy every stage of the colors that the kitchen and the garden give as gifts. 💖

If blue was a whole personality, 1900s edition.💙 I love that blue is associated with both calm and melancholy across cultures, it holds contradictions. just like me. public domain images via @ngadc + my own floral paintings. #blue #azul #itsamood #blueaesthetic

This is who was always going to do this, just didn’t know it yet. ✨✨✨ This is who Creates your murals, formulates pigments, obsesses over botanicals, collects books, runs the business side of things and chases curiosity wherever it leads #thisiswho #thisiswhohandlesthis

My art practice would be nothing without my books. I not only fill sketchbooks, I fill shelves. I mostly read about pigments, natural garden design, artist biographies, botany, neuroscience, the history of color, vintage books on how children make art. I read to know where to dig. To solve one curiosity and find three more waiting underneath it. Books connect the dots. They make my world bigger, and that’s what I want my work to do too. #collectorscorner #artistprocess #nonfictionbooks

I saw a photo in @memory_palace stories by Charles Hippolyte Aubry and immediately became obsessed. Then I proceeded to throw my very long to-do list out the window as any normal human would and spent the next hour editing a bunch of my flower shots inspired by Charles’s images. I also learned that he dipped his botanicals in plaster prior to photographing them as a way to capture more of the details and it gave his still life’s this beautiful matte look. In 1864 he started a company manufacturing plaster casts of plants but it went bankrupt soon after, which I think it’s such a shame that he didn’t have the financial means to fully pursue it. Anyway in case you want to know how to be a forever curiosity chasing procrastinator, I got you covered 😉 #CharlesHippolyteAubry #botanicalphoto #botanicals
