It’s been sitting on the rocks of Inis Oírr since a stormy night in 1960, but The Plassey Shipwreck is more than just a rusted hull… The story behind it is legendary: during a fierce Atlantic gale, the ship struck Finnis Rock. The islanders themselves rescued every single one of the 11 crew members to safety through the churning surf. Not a single life was lost that night! Of course, these days, most visitors recognise it as the "TV star" from the opening sequence of Father Ted. You can’t really say you’ve "done" the islands until you’ve stood beside this giant and felt the power of the sea that threw it so high onto the rocks. The best part? It’s walkable (or a very scenic cycle/bus journey) from the pier once we drop you off. You can also grab a lift with @wanderlywagontours who can pick you up from the pier. Have you walked out to the Plassey yet, or is it still on your Irish bucket list? Tap the link in our bio to book your crossing and see it for yourself!

Why I love the Cliffs of Moher? They look good from every angle. 🌊 Most people pull up at the visitor centre, snap the same shot everyone else has and head off. And don’t get me wrong, that view is iconic for a reason. But if you really want to feel the scale of these cliffs, you need to see them from the water. Head to Doolin and hop on a Doolin Ferry boat tour. Pro tip: do both. The clifftop walk AND the boat. You won’t regret it. Have you seen the Cliffs from the water yet? 👇 📍 Cliffs of Moher, Co. Skylar over at @skylarlovestotravel is after letting the secret out of the bag, and we’re not even mad about it! 🤫 She’s hit the nail on the head. Most people only ever see the Cliffs of Moher from the top looking down. And don't get us wrong, the cliff edge is great, but looking up at 700 feet of sheer rock face from the deck of the ferry? Now that’s an experience! As Skylar said herself, the videos really don't do the scale of it justice. You get to hear the roar of the Atlantic and if you’re lucky this time of year, you might see puffins bobbing around in the water. You’ll also sail right past the sea cave used in **Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince**. If you’re heading to Doolin, do yourself a favour and see the Cliffs the way they were meant to be seen. From the water! Want to see the "Horcrux Cave" for yourself? We’ll save you a spot by the railing!

Another familiar face spotted on Doolin Ferry today 👀 British journalist and travel legend, Michael Portillo, was on board and cameras were rolling for his visit to Inis Mór, the largest of the Aran Islands. Best known for his railway documentaries which have seen him travelling by rail across the globe, he is also a retired politician and held a number of ministerial and Cabinet positions in the UK government. One thing's for sure...you never know who you'll spot next on Doolin Ferry! Comment below if you've watched his tv show👇 #celebrityspotting #aranislands #inismór #michaelportillo #sailwithdoolinferry

If you’re wondering if a trip to the Aran Islands is worth the journey, just ask the lads on the next few slides, because they came a long way! We’ve had a few "familiar faces" hop on board and let’s just say they weren’t here for a red carpet. They were here for the same things everyone else is: Gorgeous views, an unforgettable experience and maybe a peaceful pint! From Steve Carell, to the legendary Bill Murray, Gordon Ramsey and Christopher McDonald, it was a pleasure to have them on the waves. Want to walk the same paths as the legends? We’re heading out daily from Doolin Pier over the summer so grab your ticket and come join the club.

There is nothing quite like the moment someone shouts "Dolphins!" and the whole boat rushes to the side to catch a glimpse. We’re lucky enough to share these waters with some very playful neighbours, and they regularly join us on our crossings between Doolin and the islands. They love to show off! We can’t guarantee a dolphin escort on every trip (they don't check our timetable, unfortunately!), but when it happens, it turns a great trip into an unforgettable one.
