Very proud to have recorded this back in 2023. Very topical considering the state of global affairs today with despotic far right leaders being sworn in at alarming rates. It also marks 10 years of collaborations with the formidable Asif Kapadia. I am truly grateful for this🙏🏿. Featuring the mighty Samantha Morton as the lead. Go on, give it a watch
Today would have been your 50th birthday. Happy birthday. Your musical innovation is so missed. Can honestly say no other musician resonated as deeply and at such key points in my life. Making me nod to those beats since 95. Rest in power king @officialjdilla Jay dee J dilla
After the Rts award a few weeks back Uprising goes and gets a Bafta for factual series. If you haven't seen the doc then it's still on Iplayer and well worth a watch. A truly memorable project.
In the meantime I'm onto the next one.
Definitely my proudest work so far in my career. Feel lucky to have worked on such an important part of British history that needs to be told. Privilege in fact for these contributors to even share their stories with us. Thanks to all the lovely crew. Many thanks to Rogan team.
Go check it out on iplayer now. Part one was aired last last on BBC one.

Uprising is the extraordinary story of three intertwined events from 1981: the New Cross Fire, which killed 13 young black people, the Black People’s Day of Action and the Brixton riots.
Watch this pioneering documentary, directed by Steve McQueen and James Rogan from Tuesday 20th to Thursday 22nd July, 9pm on BBC One. Alternatively you can stream all episodes on iPlayer after episode one is broadcast.
