Somethings you don't see often, an African American Professor teaching an African student from Ghana 🇬🇭& a Caribbean student from St. Lucia 🇱🇨about an African American Architect, Robert Coles! Inclusive Design Studio Spring 2021
This semester was fun, being that it was Deron's first semester in grad school and it was my last semester in grad school. Getting to study & celebrate the life of Robert Coles's work and learn in-depth about African design, artwork, & architecture by Dr. Davis was an inspiration to both of us.
The late Robert Coles, a Buffalo native, has a list of very impressive projects. We had the opportunity to add to one of his built projects as a studio. The semester was conducted as a studio base competition commissioned by the NFTA to design a new canopy for Utica Train Station in Buffalo, NY.
Unfortunately, our project came in third. Deron and I and the rest of the studio groups worked together on the first place project Loom Lane for the rest of the semester which was a success. In the near future the NFTA will install the new canopy system in Utica Station in honor of Robert Coles.
Swipe left to learn about our project and tell us what you think in the comments.

EVOLVING OUR SURROUNDINGS TO ELEVATE OUR SOCIETY!
Tomorrow afternoon!!! Stop by for our collaboration with Ultraviolet Visual Studio based in NYC we would like to present our first installment of MTA - Meet The Artist. MTA is geared towards giving Artists a platform to show case their talents.
Emily Quartley, 21, is from Buffalo NY. She has also just graduated from the University at Buffalo, majoring in Studio Art and minors in Spanish and Education.
Emily:
"I use my art to visit other worlds that I create in my mind. I like my art to have a bit of surrealism and a bit of magic. I hope that it can inspire creativity in those who see it. Ultimately, I just want to have fun creating and for others to get a glimpse of my imagination".
1st Artwork - Control
This painting is about the loss of control. The subject’s mind is being controlled by the growth that has consumed her, and she is rendered zombified. I tried to fill this painting with the feeling of supernatural magic that I hope is conveyed to the viewer
2nd Artwork - The Dissected Woman:
This life size painting of a dissected woman illustrates the world’s attempts to understand womankind. I wanted it to convey violence and sacrifice as well as the surge of power and magic that exists within every woman.
3rd Artwork - The Spindly Ladies in Space:
This piece is my interpretation of oblivion. I wanted to convey a sense of confusion and disorientation to the viewer although the subject shows only a detached absence, listlessly floating in an endless loop.
