Solid Walnut Octagonal Nightstands ! 🐙🪵
Two panels I sliced up and folded into octagons for a nice continuous grain run down all sides of these beautiful custom nightstands.
I was inspired by the octagonal head of a Japanese hammer which shaped the form of these pieces.
Thank you to my wonderful client Michelle for commissioning me to make these custom pieces !

Greetings, I’m presenting to you noryoak woodworks, the name of my business. noryoak comes from the Korean expression, effort leads to success…
노력 성공
It’s an expression my grandma has been saying to me for a long time, and something I keep in mind whilst in the midst of my craft.
I do custom, high end woodworking, while keeping the user experience in mind.
The Ginkgo leaf represents longevity, prosperity and wisdom.
I got some super nice fleece hats embroidered with the balaclava shiesty on the inside. I’m selling em for what I payed for them. 40 bucks. 4 options to choose from.
Thank you for all of your support, I’m looking forward to making you something nice, that will last generations.

Kane Tsugi Mirror
European Beech, Sipo Pegs.
Hand cut joinery, crafted with care.
My friend Mirai asked me to contribute a piece to his art show, so I decided to give this joint a try that I saw on the internet. I started this mirror Monday morning and had to be finished by Saturday evening. My goal was to hand cut the joinery and hand plane finish, with my Japanese tools I’m learning how to use.
After a 90hr work week I completed the mirror just in time. And by a stroke of good fortune, I sold it 10 min after the show opened.
I was able to cut all the joinery by hand, but after starting to Kanna finish the frame, I realized I’d run out of flat on the back of my blade and wouldn’t be able to get it back in working shape before the deadline. So I had to call an audible Friday morning and settle for the “American way” lol, and sanded the frame after gluing it up. I also used a router to chamfer the inside edges.
The biggest lesson from this project is that the Japanese tools are not tools you learn to comfortably wield in a week.
2026 has been off to a great start, I’m looking forward to what the rest of this year of the horse has to offer ! 🔥🐎🐎🐎

A custom pair of solid cherry nightstands built on commission for my wonderful client Brooke.
I challenged myself, and designed the nighstands to come together entirely with various different joinery methods. All of which I had never done before!
I used a dovetailed rabbet to build the case. Wedged through tenons to fit the shelf. Mitered, angled bridle joints to make the legs. Which are affixed to the bottom rails via another wedged through tenon. The bottom rails are affixed to the case via a sliding dovetail. And finally the piston fit drawer box came together with pinned dovetailed rabbets.
This was by far the most complex build I’ve ever taken on—92 hours in total. I learned a whole lot, some things, the hard way. Like you got to cut your wedges with the grain up and down the wedge so they don’t snap when you’re tapping them in…
Very happy with how these turned out!
Pictures from a life changing weekend at the National Japanese Woodworking Meetup. I met so many cool people and learned a ton. Thank you to everyone who shared their knowledge with me and gave me plenty of good examples on how to go about life.
Additionally shout out to my homie Nora who let me stay at her place and drive her really cool 1979 Honda Accord!
And shout out to Werner who is just a legend and taught me a lot about life.
