The Kansas City Royals announced plans for a downtown stadium in Kansas City. They celebrated the news with a loss to the Baltimore Orioles. An early omen? Probably not. Fun to cover the game nonetheless. For @thekansascitystar

After months of anticipation, @chappellroan Visions of Damsels and Other Dangerous Things Tour finally made its way to Kansas City on Friday, Oct. 3. Fans knew what to expect based on clips shared from her first four stops in New York, but you don’t really believe it’s happening until it’s right in front of you. For 90 minutes, Roan, born Kayleigh Rose Amstutz out of Willard, Missouri, let a sold-out National WWI Museum and Memorial crowd (and fans who watched from outside the venue grounds even though they weren’t allowed to) know that not only is her star rising, but that she’ll be near the top as long as she wants to. From the second she walked out onto a castle-like stage dressed as a medieval princess to trash a man’s “fugly” jeans in the song “Super Graphic Ultra Modern Girl” amid a dramatic fairytale storybook setup, she had the entire crowd in the palm of her hand. They ate up every high note she hit on “Good Luck, Babe” and her newest song, “The Subway.” “This is so awesome to come home and after this. It’s so awesome to see the city show up for me,” Roan said. “It’s so awesome to see all the pink lights and coffee shops and thrift shops and people in a good mood. “It makes me so happy and it makes me feel so loved and affirmed that this is what I’m meant to do.” For @thekansascitystar ✍️ : @josephh315

Temwa Chawinga has been the NSWL’s top goal scorer the last two years and with games like today, you can see why. First hat trick ever recorded in @kccurrent history on a beautiful Mother’s Day. For @thekansascitystar

It’s been a while since WNBA hoops was played in Kansas City. Nearly 21 years ago, actually. Yet, many fans had the same thoughts when it came to the idea of a professional basketball team in KC. The consensus? Bring em’ on. The @minnesotalynx played the Nigerian women’s national team @dtigressofficial Monday for a preseason game at the T-Mobile Center. The Lynx won 88-79, giving fans a glimpse of what life would be like with a WNBA team in KC. Recently, KC struck out on a bid to bring an NBA team back to town, while the city was left out of the 2026-2028 WNBA expansion. For many people in the arena, Monday was their first time experiencing a live WNBA game. The Lynx are geographically the closest WNBA team to KC. ✍️ : Rashad Alexander Been on a tear lately. Rugby doubleheader at CPKC Stadium last night. @nzrugbyofficial v. @rugbycanada & @usarugby v. @wallaroosrugby . Weather delayed the match by three hours and folks still turned up. Every time I watch this sport I’m in awe of the physicality and energy of the game itself. I’ll take every opportunity I can to photograph it. 🏉 🇳🇿🇦🇺🇨🇦🇺🇸 Kia ora! For @thekansascitystar

Exactly 10 years, to the day, after Kris Saim received his first diagnosis of cancer, he received another. This time, the diagnosis was more grim. The colon cancer he had beaten into remission with chemotherapy, surgeries and radiation had invaded other parts of his body. He was in Stage 4, the most lethal. Saim is not giving cancer the last word. The 52-year-old executive and career coach has a lot to say, to his loved ones, friends, people from his past, work colleagues, even strangers. He wrote letters to 74 of them, personal, intimate words of gratitude and farewell that last summer became the basis of a podcast he named “Dying Out Loud (@dyingoutloudpodcast ).” Saim decided to speak publicly about death because he doesn’t want people to fear it. While surveys show that 91% of Americans believe talking about death and dying is normal, 27% are uncomfortable with those conversations. And 31% are uneasy thinking about their own mortality. “It’s been a very great and cathartic and healthy experience for me to share all the good, the bad and unfortunately some of the ugly too, and be an open book for people who are curious as part of that,” he said. ✍️ : Lisa Gutierrez For @thekansascitystar

@spitta_andretti at the @thetrumankc on a whim. Shoutout to @cousinrome and @domchronicles for the access. 🙏🏾 When I first started out making work, I would study Curren$y’s music videos and how they were made. I’ve seen him live several times now and it’s always a great show.

Two years ago was the last time I went to church. Every year around this time, I kinda have this internal struggle that occurs inside me regarding Easter and what it means to me now, so many years removed from the pew. This year is no different in that sense. But I find comfort in the memories, embrace the little faith I do have, and continue walking this spiritual path.
