BABA’S CHANDELIER
@sit.marrickville
When
@slurpic0 and
@alexkelly95 ’s email with the baba’s icon popped up in my inbox, without reading, I knew exactly what we were to do. On visits to
@babasplace__ I had always admired their lighting piece, a beautiful table cloth draped over a hanging light. The beauty of its simplicity, so powerful in capturing Baba’s essence. Immortalising this piece was a great honour as I have loved what the
@babasplace__ team have accomplished in Sydney. A powerful message and demonstration of community and family oriented hospitality.
The chandelier for me was also a great lesson in that anything in the pursuit of furthering one’s knowledge, is never a waste of time.
Initially we didn’t have the infrastructure to warp a piece of Perspex this large and reached out to manufacturers to see if they could help. We were met with the idea was impossible because the holes in the acrylic would melt away, however I knew that this may not be the case as we actually did achieve it once through our
@dinneralaperspex series; a remake of Lankan Filling Stations hopper. Combined with our knowledge of making textural patterns for
@nikhill_porcine ‘s Milan Cricket Club and doily patterns for MasterChefAU, I had hope!!
A special thank you to
@plastixaustralia who have put up with my weird demands for the last 13 years and thank you for letting me use the oven for this idea, a pleasure to be banned from the Christmas party 5 years ago to no fault of my own and sorry for cheating on you with other Perspex oven manufacturers. (
