Paris was fantastic. Can’t thank enough: @matt_mamoustache and @frequenceparis for another invitation and for the hospitality; @geology365 for the inspiration—through music, stories, and wisdom; @_raw_queen_ for the new heavies in my collection and for the opportunity to be a part of @discostormy once again; Aïcha (who quit Instagram) for the shelter and for taking over the photography duties at Fréquence. Merci beaucoup, and until next time!

TUNEZ WERE PLAYED Still buzzing after last Saturday at @spatifklub together with @admin_bristol and @burn.reynolds . A true celebration of love and respect for the music of the past, uniting incredible musical diversity under the umbrella of soul and funk—the clips say it all. Much love to all the dancers and supporters who made that night special. Until next time.

I’ve shared the flip already, but it’s the A side that really deserves the spotlight. Happy to finally have this modern soul gem in my collection. 👉 youtube.com/domgrooves (or link in my bio)

For me, it’s all about tracking down these nuggets—tunes with subtle keys and odd chord progressions that don’t fit the timeline. These are the burners that grow on you. Give this one a listen and see what happens. 👉 youtube.com/domgrooves (or link in my bio)

It just so happens that Transport, a short-lived band from Portland, OR, active around 1980, received a spotlight on the channel recently. From approachable jazz-funk to deeper fusion cuts, it’s all in there. All songs were uploaded with the blessing of Albina Music Trust, the nonprofit label responsible for unearthing and releasing their sessions for the first time—decades after they were recorded. Make sure you visit their Bandcamp page and grab the releases—they’ve been doing some fantastic preservation work. But for now: 👉 youtube.com/domgrooves (or link in my bio)

The very first cassette tape landed on the channel this week. The music is first-class, but unfortunately, years of mishandling have taken their toll on the physical material—even through a sealed case. What sounds like volume swings is, sadly, magnetic damage to the tape itself. It’s permanent, too. But just like with crackly records, I couldn’t pass on archiving this nugget. That said, if anyone has an intact copy and would be willing to lend it for a high-quality reupload, hit me up. But this is why I’m in this game to begin with. I welcome AAA reissues that sound great, but what really excites me is the original piece—with amazing music, its imperfect sound signature, and the unique history it carries. And while I doubt this album will ever get a pristine reissue, this Heaven’s Sound tape is exactly that. If you’re like me and get excited about hearing music from its original source, you should subscribe to my channel: 👉 youtube.com/domgrooves (or link in my bio)

I discovered Quasimode through a tip from @legitimategroove —and it’s been a journey down the rabbit hole ever since. I thought I had collected all their bangers (some of them surprisingly hard to get a hold of), but I recently came across their best-of released on Blue Note in 2012. Turns out that CD comes with alternate versions and other top-notch material that wasn’t available anywhere else, so I naturally had to share the findings. Jazz doesn’t get much that attention on the channel, but I hope jazz heads here enjoy these nuggets. More to come: 👉 youtube.com/domgrooves (or link in my bio)
