A warm afternoon for November, an itching feeling to “go fishing” and a phone call from @l.b_angling Before you know it the cars packed, I’m in my waders behind the wheel rolling towards the beach. Arriving slightly earlier than Leo, I figure I’ll have a nose around the bay. Well, what happened next is something I’ll cherish forever. I clip on the Patchinko 125, as the fish have been hitting topwater more recently. On my first cast, about halfway through the retrieve and on the second pause, I watch that signature suction plop and the patch is gone. I am now attached, to what initially I thought was a alright fish, a few large head shakes later and up to the surface boils this UNIT. I’m speechless and proceed to play tug of war with this old girl. She tries her best to dive again but the drag is on tight and the rod is loaded. Upon bringing her through the gully at my feet, three bass of similar size follow her in and they are attempting to “snatch her meal”. As the fish is gently beached, the others leave and I’m now left on my knees with the biggest bass I’ve ever seen, with the patchinko 125 completely absent from the scene. After resting the fish in between attempts to pry the treble hooks from the jaws from this old fish, I finally manage to unhook the fish cleanly and have her resting. I finally compose myself and realise Leo is en route and most likely has arrived, I poke my head up to see my friend on the other side of the bay, I shout to him and present the bass (almost certain I have an 80)”I’ve got a f******g 80 mate”, he sprints and rock hops over and captures a memory that will be with me forever. Still pinching myself. 74cm estimated 9-10lb This fish blows my previous PB of 58 out the water. Finally, all the hours have payed off and in what a way for it to happen.

The fishing has been good this week, some lovely opportunities to hit marks after work.
