Celestial intermediaries The Rococo period marked the peak of court entertainment, particularly in France, where ballet evolved into a formalised art under aristocratic patronage. Dancers frequently embodied celestial bodies- sun, moon, stars, and allegorical figures like Cupid- reflecting a worldview where nature, love, and power were staged as visual pleasure. Simultaneously, Meghadūta presents nature as an emotional intermediary, transforming the cloud into a carrier of desire and memory. This project bridges these two traditions, positioning Cupid as the Rococo equivalent of the cloud messenger-a symbolic figure who mediates between lovers but cannot reunite them.
