Opening this Thursday, the IFPDA Print Fair is the leading international fair dedicated to printmaking, bringing together an exceptional group of galleries presenting works spanning more than five centuries—from Old Master prints to ambitious contemporary editions. This is a rare opportunity to engage deeply with the breadth and depth of the medium and to encounter works seldom seen on the market. Among the highlights is an extraordinarily rare early etching by Charles White, Untitled (Head of a Man) (1940), a vivid expression of the artist’s emerging command of line, form, and expressive intensity. We look forward to welcoming you and sharing these remarkable works in person. We are saddened by the passing of Mel Edwards, a pioneering artist whose work helped shaped the language of contemporary sculpture and printmaking. Edwards worked closely with Ben Wigfall at Communications Village, where his collaborative spirit and engagement with experimental printmaking found meaningful expression. Our thoughts are with his family and all who were touched by his life and art. Untitled 2015 color lithograph Untitled 2015 color lithograph Carolina Kingston I, c. 1976 color etching

Dolan/Maxwell presents United States of Viscosity at the 2026 IFPDA Print Fair (April 9-12 @parkavearmory ) Pioneered by Krishna Reddy and Kaiko Moti at Atelier 17 in 1950s Paris—building on Stanley William Hayter’s earlier experiments—viscosity printing emerged from chance: oil repelling ink on an etched plate. This led to a breakthrough system allowing up to four colors from a single plate using rollers of varying hardness, printing simultaneously without blending. Reddy later taught the method in Paris and New York. Beyond technique, viscosity printing introduced luminous color and expanded etching’s expressive potential by engaging the plate’s surface. Our exhibition features key works by Hayter, Reddy, Moti, Helen Phillips, Gail Singer, Shirley Wales, Shirley Witebsky, Judith Blum, and Takesada Matsutani. The method spread to Robert Blackburn’s workshop, influencing artists like Romare Bearden and Norman Lewis, and evolved further at Communications Village under Ben Wigfall, fostering cross-cultural exchange. Still vital today, the show includes contemporary works by Anders Bergstrom and Adrian Armstrong, alongside prints by Norman Ackroyd, Susan Rothenberg, Betye Saar, and others, plus WPA-era and pre-WWII works by Benton Spruance, Grant Wood, Dox Thrash, and more. Visit our website for more information and we look forward to seeing you next week at the @ifpda print fair @parkavearmory Krishna Reddy Demonstrators, 1968 open bite etching with simultaneous color viscosity printing

American print maker Walter Williams (1920-1998) often portrayed children ensconced in the natural world with strong colors to evoke a vast space. This work holds a sense of innocence and wonder essential to childhood. Williams grew up in Harlem and later relocated to Denmark to seeking refuge from biased and violent United States. “Boy with Sunfowers”, made in 1965, allows the child a space of escapism and tranquility. #blackhistorymonth #collectprints #contemporaryart

Margo Humphrey’s tribute to Clyde Lesley McPhatter is our tribute to Black History Month. Mr McPhatter (1932-1972) was an American rhythm and blues, soul, and rock singer. He was among the most widely imitated R&B singers of the 1950s and 1960s, and was key in the shaping of of doo-woo and R&B Margo Humphrey is a distinguished American Printmaker and educator. Black History Month is warming up and we are honored to share “The Seed”, a 1983 lithograph by John Biggers (1924-2001). John Biggers was a muralist who emerged after the Harlem Renaissance and World War II. He was a graduate, and later professor at Penn State University. The Winter Show is on through the weekend at @parkavearmory - come see us. We’re spotlighting works by Larry Spaid, Peter Brooke, Nona Hershey, Emily Mason, and Steve Ford, shown in conversation with modern masters Gabor Peterdi, Al Loving, and Anne Ryan, plus more. Together, these works trace a throughline from early modernist experimentation to voices still shaping the American visual landscape - where material intelligence, historical depth, and cultural urgency meet.
