Prayer for keeping your wits about you while falling in love
Praise the body that sends these signals -
the chemicals flowing, the sparks flying, the tissues responding, telling me how to bond and create.
Praise the divine synchronicity, the outrageous aliveness.
May I cherish every morsel of beauty this altered state supports me to receive.
Feet on the ground, may I feel the gravity of my life, the downward connection to everything heavy and material.
May I stay in my life, sober myself enough to choose nourishing continuity while this gorgeous, disruptive storm blows through.
May I batten down friendships, the practices that keep my body and spirit and chosen responsibilities available to me.
May I remember myself, pursuing honesty wherever possible while the wind whips through me, the roller coaster climbing and descending, the stomach drops.
May I weather the fears that visit, recalling that I keep myself safe in the web of my life, relationships, landscapes.
I choose this risk awake.
Impermanence is the only certainty, disappointment is always included in the journey. No one has to stay with me, except me.
I abide here, I will tend this life, this place, this practice.
