Reviving a 40+ year-old photographic archive to museum-grade standards was a major priority for us in putting together the PRETTY BOY exhibition - both for the sake of collectors as well as the artist’s legacy. Unearthing and selecting the photographs was one thing, but presenting them to the public in a format that does justice to Josie Borain’s rare talent was a process that required meticulous attention to detail. Josie’s foresight in storing her negs away safely was a big factor (pay attention analogue shooters!) but entrusting them to the right printing lab was critical to the exhibition’s success. To this end we couldn’t have asked for a better partner than @dogeareditions . Lauren’s passion for the work coupled with her expert technical guidance and endless patience made the printing process a pleasure. We’re very proud of how fresh and alive these photographs feel, despite their decades spent stashed away in a garage. In the studio with Will Sheepskin and Vuyi “I’m greatly honored to have been able to continue my ongoing relationship with Lauren by printing my portrait of Vuyi, “The Farmhand’s Son” with Dog Ear Editions. The image is from my series “On the Farm, exploring the area of the Eastern Cape and the farming community my heritage is from. I ran into Vuyi one winter evening at golden hour and was compelled to make his portrait because of how the scene spoke to one of the overarching ideas I was trying to understand out there, that of childhood innocence and the way one views the world when you’re young.
