Celebrate Endangered Species Day by helping DOEE protect our District fish, wildlife, and plants and critical habitats. We just released a draft of our Wildlife Action Plan for public comment and want to hear from you. More information at https://doee.dc.gov/service/wildlifeactionplan
Happy Endangered Species Day! Did you know that DC an official amphipod? The tiny Hays Spring amphipod is only found in the District, where it lives in springs in the Rock Creek watershed.
Happy Endangered Species Day! Northern long-eared bats are found in DC in dense forests and use peeling bark and tree cavities for maternity roosts. These bats can be seen foraging for insects soon after dusk over streams and in forest clearings.

#DGSDelivers— We were excited to join the @mvtcid and community members for the Cobb Park Spring Fest to celebrate the reopening of the newly renovated Cobb Park! 🛝
This is about creating a space where families can gather, kids can play, neighbors can connect, and the community can truly enjoy being outside together.
We are grateful for @mayor_bowser & all partners, including, @mvtcid , @kr_mvtcid , @dcdpr , @cmcharlesallen , @doee_dc , @ddotdc , @dcdpw , @op_indc , as Bowser’s investment reflects her continued commitment to creating safe, modern, and welcoming public spaces for residents across all 8 wards.
This project would not be possible without the support of our design-build team, The Bennett Group, AMT, DGS Project Manager, Jeff Robinson, DPR Project Manager, Shayda Musavi, our client agency DPR, and all involved!
Join us in recognizing the critical role amphibians play in our ecosystems worldwide and here in the District. Amphibians are important environmental bioindicators. Their presence, absence, or abundance reflects the overall health of their environment. Amphibians are sensitive to environmental changes like pollution, habitat loss, or climate change, so they serve as an early warning system for environmental impacts and degradation. DOEE wildlife biologists are dedicated to protecting amphibians and their habitats in the District. đź“·: Marco Carvello, DOEE Wildlife Biologist
Meet one of our air quality heros. Monae and her colleagues conduct research and analysis and develop strategies to meet ambient air quality standards to protect our health.
The planning team also maintains DOEE's low-cost sensor network and audits the DMV's vehicle emissions inspection and maintenance program.
ICYMI: Director Jackson and the DOEE Air Quality Division join Anthony David and Sebrena Rhodes from Empower DC for the ribbon cutting on the new Air Quality Monitoring Park Bench at Barry Farms Recreational Center in SE. DOEE has installed these four benches in Wards 4, 5, 7 and 8, based on recommendations from community members and air quality experts. The benches are equipped with real-time air monitoring technology, providing valuable environmental data to help residents better understand the air they breathe.
DOEE is honored to recognize the newest recipient of the Stormwater Quarterly Hero Award for Quarter 2 of FY’26: Mr. John Hubbard of the Department of Public Works @dcdpw
This is a special recognition due to Mr. Hubbard’s exceptional work in managing the United Medical Center (UMC) location during leaf season, and especially for his dedication when the site was designated as a snow storage location during the District’s “Snowcrete” event.
We extend sincere thanks to Mr. Hubbard for his outstanding service, reliability, and commitment to protecting the District’s environment. His efforts embody the spirit of excellence that this award represents.
We're wrapping up Air Quality Awareness Week with a community walk in Eckington. This interactive event offered residents an opportunity to learn more about local air quality while engaging directly with DOEE experts.
