I have a firm belief that everyone should have some basic hands-on skills. I'm not saying you need to learn to weld, but some basic knowledge on how to diagnose and fix a few things is nice to have. You appreciate what you have when you're invested at that level. I also believe this knowledge needs to be passed down.
Shop classes all through my highschool years was a motivator. Woodshop, Ag Mechanics, Mechanical Drawing, Architectural Drawing. I couldn't do fractions or geometry to save my life. Then I learned to read a tape measure. And layout isometric sketches of random parts.
I spend a LOT of time behind the computer screen. So when we get opportunities to craft with our hands and our minds, we're committed. 👊
Been in Oceanside this week for a couple back-to-back presentations at a conference. Aside from the stellar weather @visitoceanside delivered on, was the @malowscc showing up put it over the top. Appreciated the conversations.👊

Bailed on GNRS to work on the roadster, even though a break from the deep freeze would have been really nice.
I don't abide by the "just get it done" mentality.
Family, business, life. It all adds up and I think we need to normalize that a bit more here on the socials because that's real life. Not just the pretty pictures.
Nobody shares the second guesses, late night screw ups cause you want to push through, but you're taxed. Only to rework it all. The shit welds, the broken tooling, the mess. Not shown is the 10' of scrap stainless at your feet made up of miscalculated bends.
I get the time in where I can. Focus on the details that matter to me and that I'll see and a select few will appreciate it when they notice it. I take a lot of pride in that.

Old meet new.
Having never touched a 3D modeling software, I figured I'd start small. Tossed together a small adapter in Fusion 360 for this old milk house lamp shade I've had to hang over the lathe. 20 mins to design + 20 mins to print. @bambulab_official

The AA bus completely restored by the Model A Foundation is great to see in person.

A meaningless photo taken 5yrs ago this week from the roof of my Dad's house turns into an annual reminder of thanks and reflection.
Not pictured is my Dad who actually is seated off to the left of the photo, on a stump, upset that he wasn't up there fixing his own roof. He never asked for help even if you pushed him... Nov. 2020 amidst the pandemic, he finally took me up on that offer and little did I know it would be the last time I'd physically see him upright and speak to him. He told me "I owe you a hug." Few days later it was the hospital and the downward journey....
By no means am I perfect. Neither are you. That's the unfortunate lie that this platform wants you to believe. We're all hypocrites to some degree, just figuring life out.
I'm fortunate to do this life surrounded by good people, an incredible spouse who puts up with far too much, and a couple of really good kids.
Just a reminder to keep trying each day to be a better version of yourself. Set an example of what it means to be a decent human. Right your wrongs whatever way you see fit. Show up whenever you can, however you can, and be helpful. ✌️
