The Ruskin Collection: Storm-Cloud - The Look of the Sky opened at the Millennium Gallery in Dec, and since then, artists from across the world have been responding to Ruskin’s revolutionary 1884 lecture, which was one of the first to discuss climate change, and inspired this exhibition @ruskintoday
Here’s curator, Ashley Gallant, to explain how this digital artwork by @doctortompayne and @goodgoodgoodall is evolving thanks to artists across the world responding to the lecture.
This exhibition brings together work from the @ruskintoday collection, curated by our @natsatclub young people, with video work by @goodgoodgoodall and research by @doctortompayne at @sheffhallamuni
The Ruskin Collection: Storm-Cloud - the Look of the Sky continues at the Millennium Gallery until 29 Nov 26. If you like this exhibition, please donate £5 to help care for Sheffield’s collection and celebrate the stories they tell.

A few images from the recent #IbsenScope 2026 gathering in Norway, where @doppelgangsterdoppelgangster presented When We the Dead Awaken (We Have Never Lived) following the award of an Ibsen Scope Grant. It was a pleasure to spend time in conversation with artists, organisers, and fellow grant recipients from across the world, and to begin developing the show in the context of the festival and the wider Ibsen community.
Special thanks to the @ibsenscope team at @teateribsen for the invitation and generosity, and to everyone involved in the discussions, presentations, and events across the week. Particularly grateful to @hildeguri , @maritomland , @rosvollline , and the jury. And to my Doppelgangster collaborators @luckytobie and @unofficialkerithfanclub as we continue developing the work towards its premiere in 2027.

Visiting Sheffield to talk storms and climate fiction @sheffhallamuni it was great to come across this awesome exhibition by @doctortompayne who has been performing and reimagining Ruskin’s lecture ‘Storm Clouds of the 19th Century’ to think about climate change today.

🌩️ Tonight, Storm-Cloud: Observations of the Sky meets the 19th Century Now Conference! Bringing Ruskin’s The Storm-Cloud of the Nineteenth Century to life in the Grosvenor East Theatre at Manchester Met, where his fierce vision of environmental decay collides with our modern-day crises. Thrilled to have been invited to be part of a line-up of exciting talks, films, and projects influenced by the 19th century.
