🕊️ WHAT THE FLOCK?! 🕊️
The seagulls have landed at the Dock Museum!
We’re delighted to host What the Flock – The Seaquell, a community art project by local volunteer organisation Artworks Art 4 All CIC. A whole flock of seagulls, created by talented artists from across Barrow, has descended on the Mall Gallery and completely taken over the space!
📅 Wednesday 22 April – Sunday 3 May
🕚 11am – 4pm
📍 Dock Museum, Mall Gallery
All artworks are available to buy via silent auction bidding, with all proceeds supporting Artworks Art 4 All CIC and North West Blood Bikes Lancs & Lakes.
Pop in, have a wander, pick your favourite gull and support two fantastic causes—we promise it’s worth flocking to!

We had a fantastic time in half term holding ‘Heroes of the Natural World’ at the @dockmuseum celebrating the discoveries of Mary Anning, Rosalind Franklin, Charles Darwin and Rachel Carson.
Mary Anning (1799 - 1847) was a paleontologist whose discoveries played a huge part in our understanding of the Jurassic period. To celebrate her work, we held ammonite polishing, fossil necklaces, a fossil display, and a fossil sandpit.
Charles Darwin (1809 - 1882) proposed the theory of evolution. To celebrate his work, we held an animal scavenger hunt!
Rachel Carson (1907 - 1964) played a key role in starting the environmental movement via her book 'Silent Spring'. To celebrate her achievements, we made nesting materials for birds and bird craft.
Rosalind Franklin (1920 - 1958) made key discoveries about the structure of DNA. In honour of Franklin, we made DNA bracelets, DNA origami, and extracted DNA from a banana!
This morning Foxes Class attended the Dock Museum in relation to their History Topic Barrow in the Victorian Times. We found out lots of information about Sir James Ramsden and how Barrow grew rapidly during this period. We were able to use this information in our lesson this afternoon.
Thank you so much to the staff at @dockmuseum for having us. We really enjoyed it and found it interesting.
We are delighted to host a multimedia exhibition at the Dock Museum from 5th December to 23rd February exploring local stories of fragility & survival - of nature, of people - in South Cumbria. Through sound, film, images and words, an unseen, unheard world emerges. A world that is just a step away.
The Bellwethers project is the work of 100 people in South Cumbria affected by homelessness, substance recovery and other challenges. They are the ‘bellwethers’, sounding the warning of our wounded natural environment and the millions of people in Britain who are struggling to survive.
As part of this exhibition we are inviting people to come along and join local choirs to sing together on Saturday 6th December at the Dock Museum.
Two free sessions running 1:30-2:15pm & 3:00-3:45pm

Clay Journeys: Provenance and Legacy brings together the work of sculptors Claire Orange (Silverdale) and Kathryn Stevens (Barrow-in-Furness), whose practices are deeply rooted in the landscapes and seascapes that surround them. The exhibition runs from Saturday 11 October 2025 to Sunday 4 January 2026.
I’m so looking forward to seeing these new pieces in the wonderful gallery space @dockmuseum , Barrow in Furness. They’re currently popping up on my bench like giant puffballs oooozing gold and copper!
