The perpetually absent Jib Calhoun left me with some big shoes to fill, but I think I managed okay. Thanks mucho to everyone who came out and grooved to @programme4tv tonight in Jersey City!

Who wants to get high... with Don and Phil Everly? Because today at Jagged Time Lapse, we’re talkin’ about “Mary Jane,” the Everly Brothers’ smoke-filled (and sadly doomed) pop-psych single from 1967! Take a whiff in my bio, or here: /p/gettin-high-with-don-and-phil #nowplaying #psychedelic #420

Calling all NYC/NJ swingers and sophisticates: You won’t want to miss the special feature-length presentation of @programme4tv — a surreal, retro-inspired television experience blending film, live performance and talk show elements into an immersive, analog-style event — this Thursday night at @wfmu Monty Hall in Jersey City! The evening will be MC’d by Ted Leo with music provided by David Nagler on the Rhodes, and I will be slipping into my white loafers and filling in for the ever-absent talk show host Jib Calhoun to lead a post-screening convo with Programme 4 creator @rachellichtman ! Doors at 7 pm! Tix at /e/programme-4-make-the-scene-tickets-1983384054097

The Marshall Project—a nonprofit news organization covering the American criminal justice system—is sharing the music and stories of incarcerated artists through a project called Redemption Songs. We caught up with Maurice Chammah, a staff writer leading the effort, to learn more about the project’s goal of introducing listeners to a range of styles and eras of music recorded by incarcerated people in the U.S.—and why music has played such an important role in rehabilitation. Read the full feature at the link in our bio. ✍️ by @dockfidrych 📷 courtesy @marshallproj (Lead image of Power of Attorney courtesy Max Ochester) #prisonmusic #ikewhite #powerofattorney #themarshallproject

I wrote a piece for FLOOD Magazine on Redemption Songs: The Music of Mass Incarceration, a new website hosted by @marshallproj that explores the long and fascinating history of music recorded inside American prisons — such as Changin’ Times, an incredible soul and funk album recorded in 1976 by Tehachapi State Prison inmate Ike White, which was just reissued for Record Store Day. You can find the link in my bio, as well as here: /222125/the-marshall-project-maurice-chammah-redemption-songs-feature/ #nowplaying #redemptionsongs #funk

The latest episode of the CROSSED CHANNELS podcast finds @leaglealien Tony Fletcher and I trying something a little different: Instead of focusing on a particular artist or record, as we usually do, we each picked three musical topics beforehand without informing the other. And then we threw them into the mix to see where the conversation would take us! This episode - which touches upon Rickenbacker guitars, The Rolling Stones, recording sessions we wish we’d been flies on the wall for, and so much more - is free in its entirety to all listeners, and we sincerely hope you’ll check it out! Link in bio, and below. (You can also find the episode wherever fine podcasts are streamed.) And thanks again to @plasticcrimewave for coming up with the CROSSED CHANNELS logo! /p/pick-n-mix-time-rickenbackers-rolling #nowplaying #guitars #rollingstones

Today at Jagged Time Lapse: Flashing back on the “Singing Mammoths” scene from the classic 1973 baseball flick Bang the Drum Slowly, and how it led to me becoming pals with the great Orville Stoeber (the cat strumming the guitar at far left), who has now sadly left us for the Great Beyond. Rest in melodious peace, Brother O! ❤️⚾️😢 Link in bio, and below: /p/please-excuse-my-tears #nowplaying #baseballmovies #rip

A thousand thank-yous to everyone who wished me a happy birthday yesterday. Turning 60 was quite literally a walk in the park — along with ample doses of pizza, art, Thai food, great music and drinks with good pals, all enjoyed in the delightful company of Miss Dimples here. (More pics to come!) And thanks as well to everyone who has helped me raise over $700 in FB donations to @ziggysrefuge — there’s still time to pitch in a few more bucks for the piggies! ❤️❤️

Last day of 59. So grateful to have made it this far, and to be so surrounded by beauty, love and magic as I enter my sixties…
