In this season of gratitude, we’re inspired by stories that remind us why wine matters beyond the glass💫
Dave McIntyre’s latest WineLine Substack highlights Janie Brooks Heuck of @brookswinery who stepped in to carry forward her brother Jimi’s dream after his unexpected passing in 2004 and helped build Brooks into a pillar of the Willamette Valley.
From championing Riesling and biodynamics to founding the Wine Atlas Collective, Janie continues to lead with purpose and community.
And now, a new chapter begins: Jimi’s son, and Janie’s nephew, Pascal is returning home after working harvests in France to join his family winery.
We’re grateful to share a collective built on resilience, collaboration, and family, and we’re honored to raise a glass to Brooks and to every winery keeping their story alive🍷

Catena Alta Malbec 2000, from Angélica’s old vines vineyard.
Color: Ruby, with some brick; more brick on the rim, showing its age. Nose: Quiet, then herbal with woodsy - forest character, then spice — fenugreek. Palate: Toffee. Dried fruit compote, wood tannins apparent on finish, though not overwhelming. — Dave McIntyre
— Dave McIntyre

I don’t normally do these chain-mail posts, but Joey Ledford and Eliot Brenner inspired me to dig up this chestnut
