In the landscape of global nightlife, David Muallem @dmuallem is a figure defined by paradox: a craftsman of 110-decibel chaos who retreats into the hushed narration of nature documentaries; a veteran DJ who views himself not as an “alpha” leader, but as a servant to the room; and a visionary who built Munich’s @blitz_music_club as a sanctuary of counter-culture in a city often caricatured by its polish. ⁠ ⁠ "All the prejudices about Munich are true. I grew up here, and then left after high school, for over 10 years, as I almost felt imprisoned in the city. We all know the pros of Munich very well, too, though: It’s beautiful, the quality of life is great. So when I came back I had this vision to create a space here where I, myself, feel comfortable. Rund um das Ende des Blitz (@blitz_music_club ) in seinen aktuellen Räumlichkeiten herrschte Verwirrung. Eine Münchner Boulevardzeitung vermeldete im Februar, dass der Münchner Vorzeigeclub der letzten Dekade schließt, es aber Hoffnung auf einen neuen Standort gebe. Im Artikel bedauerte der Vermieter, das Deutsche Museum, diesen Vorgang öffentlich – ein Angebot zur Verlängerung des Mietvertrags habe schließlich vorgelegen. Wir haben mit David Muallem (@dmuallem ), dem Mitbetreiber des Blitz, gesprochen und ihn nach seiner Version der Ereignisse gefragt. Wie es um das Blitz steht, welche Bedeutung es für die nationale und internationale Clubkultur hat und welchen Rückhalt der Club genießt, lest ihr im Interview. It’s hard to put in words how blessed we feel to receive the 35th Herbarium episode (all vinyl) by no other than @dmuallem . Next to the fact that he is one of our favourite DJs when it comes to House music he is also the one who makes it possible for us to present our musical vision at Munich’s @blitz_music_club on a recurring basis 🪀 Our love for his music and him as a person is infinite. We are more than happy to finally welcome him and with his mix also the genre of house to our collection of styles. Here’s a little insight into Muallem’s choice of a plant, the Peyote, as a synaesthetic base for his mix - I chose Peyote because I love its quirky, chubby, almost huggable look — a gentle little weirdo that feels alive with character and warmth. Beyond the surface, its deep connection to psychedelics and spirituality mirrors how I experience music: trippy, ritualistic, and transformative. That space where sound and altered perception meet is where my sets really come to life. — About Muallem
