Walking Balto every day means embracing the weather, no matter what. It’s been a long, bitter winter, but I can only call it beautiful. Grateful to capture these moments. #brooklyn #prospectpark #snowsnowsnow
Here’s my story about the swan family in Prospect Park, Brooklyn, based on my observations during my daily walks in the park. Every year, I witness at least one swan laying eggs, and eventually, the babies hatch. In January and February, I noticed that the swans were frequently fighting; it became so intense that I even saw one get injured. Fortunately, things calmed down as the weather warmed up. By April, I started to see a swan sitting on her eggs, and the male swan was always nearby to keep her and the eggs safe.
Looking back, I believe part of the reason for the fighting was that the male swan was competing to win the favor of the best female to start a family, while also preparing the optimal environment for their future family. This swan family may have the strongest bond, having survived harsh weather, conflicts, and various dangers in the park’s natural surroundings. Six babies were born, and I hope they all survive throughout the year.🦢🤍
We’ve moved to a park in the south, and our usual brunch spots are now farther away than they used to be. Last Sunday, we explored the neighborhood and discovered a lovely café. It was delightful to see the dogs relaxed and happily sitting with their owners.
The other day, I saw a hawk catch its prey which I think was a duck about the same size as the hawk. It tried to fly off with its meal but it seemed too heavy for it to carry. I had to head home but I’ve been wondering how it all ended ever since. #wild #hawk #prospectpark
