His photos track a culture reborn on the street and terraces - unfiltered passion, defiant identity, and a fan base determined to reignite the spirit of Pittodrie’s greatest era. “Aberdeen F.C. are held in high regard on the European stage, despite rarely challenging for anything in the past 35 years. That respect comes from famous nights under the Pittodrie lights, when Bayern Munich and Real Madrid both fell under the Dons’ sword on the way to winning the ’82–’83 European Cup Winners’ Cup, followed soon after by the UEFA Super Cup staying in the Granite City after convincingly dispatching Hamburger SV. These were the days that made Willie Miller, John Hewitt, Eric Black, Neil Simpson and others heroes for a generation and beyond. The fans of that era were often as famous as the players - the Aberdeen Soccer Casuals (ASC), the original casual movement, the first Scottish football firm, demanding respect with a terrace regime of style and attitude. Now a new generational wave has arrived. The Ultras and the Youth have adopted the ways of their older associates, and they’re being heard. The recent UEFA Conference League match against FC NOAH produced a pre-match fan march showing the brute passion and appetite these supporters have for their city and team - a visual and acoustic craving that carries straight into the stadium. We can only imagine what this does for the players pulling on the famous red shirts.
