Thanks to everyone who came last night. You are appreciated. Thanks to Wendy and @couchinthedesert for inviting me in. I’m planning to gallery sit on the last weekend of the show (the 21st and 22nd of March), there will be a closing reception on the 27th, and outside that it’s open by appointment.

"I use sculpture, drawing, and photography to estrange myself from everyday objects like bottle caps, supermarket circulars, and scraps of discarded plastic. I admire artists who are inspired by cheap materials (like Richard Tuttle), awkward shapes (like Alice Mackler) and boring repetition (Bernd and Hilla Becher). Every time I see a fallen stick casting a shadow, I think, “I can't do better than that."

We are very excited to announce a solo exhibition at Couch in the Desert by D.K. Sole. This year marks the 10-year anniversary of Couch in the Desert (previously Settlers + Nomads). D.K. Sole has been a dedicated and important contributor to the project writing about Las Vegas exhibitions since our founding. We are thrilled to host this installation of her new sculptures. Please join us on March 6 from 6-8PM for an artist reception.
“The conditions around us on this planet seem to enjoy creating single things, unities, like a stick and its shadow. It takes effort to part them (the stick blows away, or maybe someone kicks it). The moment of centaur unification, what is it? is it thick or thin? is it ephemeral or quiet? where is it? how does it take place? What if they were trapped together?” - D.K. Sole
DM CITD or @dksole to visit by appointment.
I’ll be showing some sculptures of sticks and their shadows at Couch in the Desert (@couchinthedesert ) next month. You can find it at 1507 West Oakey, over the road from the Little Darlings parking lot. The reception takes place on the evening of Friday, March 6th.
The restless cut-out shape-beings from Raphaele Cohen-Bacry’s last show in this building (the playing cards a few years ago) have expanded into mixed-media landscapes—seas, plains, mountains—they’ve found somewhere new to live. At the Sahara West Studio space curated by Darren Johnson.
