Oh Marseille 🇫🇷 Chaotic group pics we cherish 🫶🏾 Still processing… this was such a meaningful trip for me. Especially for the younger me who was made to believe her imagination was “too much”. I was invited to screen Interruption @vulgarwomen at @corpsmemorables Festival 👹 Monstre(s) Edition. An intimate festival built by artists where film, photography, dance, cabaret and conversation share the same space. In such a short time I felt a real sense of communion. I went to share one film… and somehow ended up sharing two more (Bump & Gèlé). I’m truly moved by the response to my work and the love I felt from this community 🥹 @ololilolilo I’m still not even sure how Interruption ended up on your radar, but I’m so glad it did. 20 images. 10yrs+ of making. A moment of reflection looking back at what initiative.dkf has been, and a marker of where we are right now. Everything you see here has been made without core funding. No consistent infrastructure. No safety net. We’ve operated project by project. First driven purely by passion (and community!), and from 2019, only when funding was secured, building things with what was available at the time. That’s the quiet reality of the industry for many of us. With the current economic climate makes creating without resources even harder. Behind the scenes, we’ve always been here. Continuing our individual artistic practices, paying rent, surviving, growing (grasping for thriving). The village shows up when capacity, energy, and resources align. And what has been achieved in these years is something we’re deeply proud of: the innovative work, the creative risks, the unseen labour, the dense joy, the many tears, the triumphant resilience. None of it happened alone. Every production, collaboration, and moment was held together by trust and care. So this post is a thank you - and a celebration of how far so many of our collaborators have come too in their own journeys! and an honest check-in about where things stand. We’re in a new phase, defined by sustainability and giving room to be human outside of productivity alone. Where it’s okay to not always have capacity. Where rest, timing, and conditions are part of the practice. Not something to push through at all costs. The Village that has kept us, and kept pouring into us, we look excitedly at what’s still to come as we aim to build together more intentionally.
