We had a great opportunity this past week to go to Simtos in Korea with the SMEC group and @bjcmachinetools .
The SMEC group had an awesome itenary for us including a factory tour, gala night, Seoul city tour and even a trip to the Demilitarisation Zone between South and North Korea !!

But the highlight for us was getting the opportunity to stand at a machine with the head SMEC controls person and talk through some of the features we felt need a bit of fine tuning, and what other features we feel would help us, and others in day to day operations.
I have always been very impressed by the way this company welcomes ground level feedback and how they implement it and this was just the next level of that.
Big thanks to @bjcmachinetools , Boone and Claire, and Michael from SMEC for this great opportunity and a great trip.
No more Soju for a while for me though!

The power of a zero point system (or similar quickchange standard system).
Invest high at the start, reap the time rewards multiple times each day!

We needed a way to quickly lift heavy ish parts in and out of our lathe.
We dont have a gantry setup yet (but will shortly) but in the interim we need something that will work.
Fast forward 4 hours and @harrisproof_fabrication came up with this adoption to pur standard jib arm for the forklift.
We're quite happy with it. What solutions have the smaller shops come up with to load and unload heavy parts into machines where forklift access may he an issue?

We have just launched our YouTube channel and wanted to give an insight into why we want to do this and what to expect.
It will be pretty raw with minimal editing as we rather spend time cutting chips than clips!! 🫡 But the basic idea is we wanted to demonstrate how and why we tackle everyday jobshop work, in the hope other machinists may be able to pull some ideas out of it and help their day to day work.

Parameter driven programs have immensely increased the speed of which we setup variations of simple parts. 3 minute changeover to proven program and Walkaway!

Some long and light plate work in the @bjcmachinetools SMEC mill this week. Our standard fixture plates made it easy (ish!!!) to position all our clamps where we needed to machine all features and remove vibration, albeit a bit of headscratching for the first one!!!

It def pays to have invested the time in some flexible fixturing options that can be quickly put in and out of the machine

The @the.full.grip angle plate wasn't even cold from the couriers hands when it was into the machine and onto a small batch of these complex spray bar system parts for an abattoir project.
When we prototyped this job recently we done it in 6 ops in vices. . . Using the angle plate we cut that down to 2 ops with much more consistency.
