It’s countdown time to December 5—just two weeks from today—when you’ll get to walk among giants! Join us for Hail! Hail! Rock ’n’ Roll, our 10th Anniversary exhibition, featuring a star-studded lineup of artists who photographed the musicians who wrote the soundtrack of your life.
Today, we feature the work of Dennis Keeley. We'll let the photographers speak for themselves, starting with Tom Waits, Los Angeles, 1989.
Says Dennis Keeley: "I always forget that photographers see things differently than everyone else. I love this portrait of Tom because it looks so much like how I would describe him. He said he had no idea what he might look like in a photograph until he saw it, but he thought it was great because I made the soy sauce bottle bigger than his head. We talked about a moment when an orchestra transcends its practical role of playing a musical score correctly, and they all “step out together into the meadow and play music.” It happens in the arts, but also in life. You can’t make it happen, but it’s a special moment when people can let it happen.”
