One of my most proud creations for the film Iron Lung.
Heavily inspired by the NATOPS manuals we used in the Navy but made completely from scratch to fit the films in universe themes.
Over 60 pages of information pertaining to the SM-series “Hemo-Rovers” operation.
@duskdeveloper helped a ton in bringing this prop to life to meet his “Lore” criteria.
Aged using various fun tricks, but mostly just some really greasy gloves I used to wear in my flight deck days.

That time they needed a stand in for lighting and camera setup.
(NO, at no point during actual filming was I a stunt double; I was dressed so they could make sure they had the lighting and camera position dialed in before filming started)
The crew came up to me and said “alright, get Jon dressed for the shot”, I was in such a panic cause I had no clue what was happening or what to expect and I didn’t have any of the script memorized! Thankfully all I had to do was sit there.

Fun fact, I was an extra in the docking scene! We spent several days scouting props and setup a new backdrop for the reshoot so it best matched the original set design

My first Saturday at the @ostrichfestival was healing and heartwarming. So many little running as fast as they could that we couldn't capture them all.
The heat was high, but so were the spirits and smiles of all these beautiful children who still believe in magic.

🩸Iron Lung Behind the Scenes🩸
One particular piece I’m proud to have built for the film was a scale mock-up of the SM-13 submarine which I later nicknamed “the Dollhouse”. It consisted of three parts that could be opened for a side profile of the interior to allow Mark and the crew to plan camera shots.
In the beginning of production planning, I would spend time in the original game from @duskdeveloper to study the feel of the submarine as well as all of the details for the interior. I then modeled my full size interpretation of the set on my tablet using @shapr3d_official and printed the scale mock-up with PLA and used various paint techniques to better match it to the rusted aesthetic.
During early concept design, we discussed how the submarine would traverse the “blood ocean” floor. We eventually agreed on cylindrical screws, also commonly called a “screw tank”, that would make it feel more plausible compared to traditional “tank treads”.
Getting to see the final concept render by @deadlymelodic was absolutely thrilling!

🩸Behind the Scenes of “Iron Lung”🩸
🧿 Blood Eel Eyeball Raw Footage 🧿
To capture the effect of the eyeball pressed against glass practically, we had to build a container with a clear bottom so gravity would give the illusion of blood under pressure.
Despite attempts, we had to use the flat backside of the sculpted eye socket to have solid contact with the glass with the silicone eyeball pressed in the middle.
It took about four of us including @sams_the_man and @deadlymelodic to lift the prop from the blood giving you what you see in the final cut.
