This might be controversial BUUUUT…
I think that keeping yourself open to different genres is the KEY to growth in photography.
Have you rejected clientele because they don’t fit your niche?
Have you found yourself stuck in one spot?
I for one, get uncomfortable when I get too comfortable. There is always room for growth, and that’s an urge that should never be ignored!
For example, I had never taken photos of a DJ before. Or anything concert-like, and never did I plan on it. But I had fun. And more importantly, I learned something.
I learned that closing yourself in a box of “one niche” or “one aesthetic” is too suffocating when the world of photography is so vast, full of possibilities and opportunities!
And you don’t have to post something that doesn’t fit your aesthetic if you don’t want to.
But NEVER reject trying something different to keep yourself in a cage.
Niches can be great, especially when it comes to honing in on one specific genre and mastering it! But don’t let it confine you. Branch out!! Do something different!!
Don’t lock yourself in a cell while you’re holding the keys. Unlock that door and let in experience!
