Tools of the trade! Gear I am comfortable DJ’ing on… There’s some more variations probably, but throw any gear at me (except reel to reel) and I can play it.
Started on these top loading
@geminidjuk cd players, then graduated to denon dn-s5000’s (w/spinning platter, not pictured) then on to digital w/
@serato and vinyl controls. Then also started playing vinyl only sets, got a
@alphathetaglobal DDJ-REV1 controller cheap as portable solution and finally invested in a
@numark scratch mixer (best bang for buck in serato space) and
@phase_dj wireless controls.
1. Gemini CDJ’s and mixer - good bang for buck, 20 years ago!
2. Current serato setup: Serato DJ Pro, numark scratch mixer, phase wireless on the turntables, reloop neon for added buttons.
3. All-in-one pioneer XDJ-RX3 controller that handles both usb as well as direct serato control: nice kit!
4. Pioneer DDJ-REV1 controller w/ serato DJ lite - does all you need and in a very compact form factor.
5. THE standard club setup: Pioneer DJM900nx2 mixer w/ CDJ2000NX2 (works with any format and connection, even cd’s!) - mostly use them for hybrid sets using usb and vinyl. CAN do serato directly but only if you pay a premium price to serato. 🫣
6. Last but not least, I’ve finally grown in to embracing pure vinyl sets, two tt’s and a mixer and let the music speak! It’s the hardest way to play but also the most ‘connected’ to the music.
Still love the vinyl feel and sensitivity best, whether using serato w/phase or spinning actual records.
But in the end nothing matters as much as playing great music, creating a good vibe and telling a story through curation.
