A packed dance floor an hour into your dance set is great… but if you can’t get them moving at the START, you’re already playing catch up. One of the biggest mistakes I see DJs make at school events is waiting too long to build energy. The first 10-15 minutes of dancetime sets the tone for the ENTIRE night. At proms especially, I’ve found that coming out strong from the first song of your set completely changes the trajectory of the event. Once that energy and trust is built, the crowd stays locked in all night long. I’ll actually be speaking about my performance techniques for school events at DJs Assemble in Syracuse NY and will be breaking down a lot of the strategies I use to consistently pack dance floors at proms and school dances.
