Secret Dance Society 001: Budots
There’s no better place to introduce new music to Vancouver than The Lido. The crowd is always amazing, they’ll dance to anything as long as it sounds good. That’s what Secret Dance Society is all about: celebrating music from all over the world. In this episode, we spotlight Budots, a genre about having ‘joy without permission’(Jorge aka Obese.Dogma).
The night started with Filipino disco to warm up the crowd before the fast-paced, infectious rhythms of Budots took over. Everyone was already moving and enjoying the vibe. When the Budots set began, the crowd instantly connected with the music, no introduction was needed.
People came ready with their own dance moves, bringing confidence, energy, and a playful spirit to the floor. Seeing everyone dance Budots together under one roof was truly heartwarming.
We closed the evening with Latin sounds, blending experimental cumbia, textura guaracha, and other rhythms in between, making it a wonderful night from start to finish.

@djpitayaa is a Mexican DJ based in Vancouver, with seven years living in the city and three years of experience performing at various clubs and events. Their sets blend Latin influences with electronic sounds, creating an atmosphere that resonates across the city. Their goal as a DJ is to get people dancing and enjoying themselves. They play a wide range of genres, including reggaeton, dembow, guaracha, and cumbia, as well as electronic styles like house and techno.

Actualmente, capturo e intervengo en mis fotos impresas lo que siento y pienso a través de la escritura y el dibujo, sin dejar de lado la fotografía fija. Para mi la fotografía es un diario intimo de lo que vivo y lo que siento al observar lo que esta mi alrededor. Me hace ser consciente de lo que vivo y de mi contexto.
Uso cámara análoga Nikon FM2 (35mm) y también utilizo una Canonet 28 (40 mm). Me gusta los colores y la nitidez que dan las dos cámaras. El film que me gusta usar son: Kodak Gold 200/400 me encanta los tonos y la calidad de la imagen que te brindan.

Tuve que emigrar a Canadá por falta de trabajo y porque ya no me sentía seguro en mi país. Llevo trabajando en carpintería para construcción por 6 años , un oficio en el que también me encontré a mí mismo. Me permite seguir con mi pasión, pero no deja de ser un trabajo físico y mental. Estar lejos de mis raíces me hizo apreciar de dónde vengo y quién soy.
