Reworked this old pair of Bulgarian sentry guard boots from the mid-1940s. 🩰
The original pair was black, so I first bleached them for 24 hours to strip the color from both the leather and the upper part. I then dyed and painted the textile upper and applied a red-tinted leather finish. The process was a bit more complex, but that’s the basic idea.
They feature layered leather soles with metal studs for added durability and extra grip on slippery terrain like mud, gravel, or ice. Very common in military and work boots in the early to mid-20th century.
I loved working on these, it was a very meditative process.
